If your kinky curly wig is looking tired or dry, a simple refresh can bring it back to life. In this tutorial, I’m sharing how I refreshed and styled one of my favorite wigs, a human hair kinky curly wig that I made back in 2018. Even after all these years, she’s still an easy throw on and go wig that I love.

This is not a complicated routine. I focus on moisture, gentle detangling, and light curl definition without over styling.

Products I Used

To cleanse the wig, I used Suave Almond and Shea Butter Moisturizing Shampoo.
For conditioning, I used Giovanni Too Chic Ultra Moist Conditioner for dry, damaged hair.
To define and set the curls, I used Lottabody Wrap Me Foaming Mousse.

I also used a wide tooth comb and hair clips to section the wig and work through the hair comfortably.

Important Detangling Tip

Before applying any styling product, it’s important to fully detangle the hair. Detangling first helps prevent shedding and allows the curls to define more easily. Ideally, all tangles should be removed before finger styling or applying mousse.

How I Refreshed and Defined the Curls

After cleansing and conditioning, I sectioned the wig and started working from the back. I applied a small amount of foaming mousse to my hands and gently worked it through the hair using my fingers. I focused on defining the curls while letting the hair do what it naturally wants to do.

I prefer a simple approach and avoid using too much product or manipulation.

Defined Curls or Volume

This defined curl look is just one option. If you prefer a fuller, more voluminous kinky curly look, you can pull the curls apart, use a pick, or style the hair once it’s fully dry. Both looks are beautiful. It all comes down to personal preference.
