Hey Shug Hey!

I'm Meka Sharay

I am a retired wig maker with more than 15 years of experience creating beautiful custom wigs for women around the world.

After years of making custom wigs for my amazing clients, my focus is now teaching women how to make their own natural-looking wigs at home.

I share everything I know in a clear, beginner-friendly way so you can gain confidence, save money, and create styles you truly love.

Hair Has Always Been My Passion

I’ve always had a passion for hair all the way back to my Barbie days when I was a little girl. Before “Her hair is laid” was even a saying, baby, my dolls’ hair stayed laid. 😊

In 2008, I turned my passion into a side hustle. I mastered full sew-in weaves with no leave out and that became my specialty.

The Wig Maker

Around this time I was newly natural and in love with my 4C hair. I could no longer commit to sew-in weaves, but I still wanted cute protective styles and the freedom to switch up my look for a few days at a time. That’s when I started experimenting with wigs.

I kept settling for wigs that didn’t fit well, didn’t last, or made with hair that was a hot mess. One day it hit me. If I could do a sew-in weave, surely I could make myself a wig. I started doing just that with hair I loved. Once I got the hang of it, I started offering custom wig services to my sew-in clients and eventually to ladies across the country.

My Crochet Era

In 2016, my sew-in clients started asking for crochet braid installs. At first, I didn’t want to since I was not a fan of the visible knots. But then I saw women wearing crochet styles where the knots were invisible. The hair looked like it was growing from their scalp. That’s when I got curious and eager to learn.

I practiced on myself for awhile before offering crochet styles to my clients. Some loved crochet braids so much, they ditched sew-in weaves altogether.  I did not enjoy crochet braids due to the maintenance required to care for the hair.

That’s when I got the idea to turn crochet styles into wigs. Crochet wigs were a bit trickier to make than wigs made with wefts, so it took a a little longer to figure it out.
